But it was more noticeable when I left town for a few days, to shuffle through an 8K with Alicia and Eileen, and then came back and stuck my head in the makeshift, indoor coop.
The chickens are six to eight weeks old now and almost fully feathered. And big!
The indoor coop thing is working out great, but they're getting so big that they're much noisier and dustier and I don't know how long I'll last with the chickens in the house. We could really use some good weather to get moving on coop construction.
In this coop, the water is on the far wall and we have to step inside to change the water. The chickens don't run and huddle in the corner anymore when you reach in. Now they crowd your foot and peck at the water jug and run all over your foot, sometimes just standing on your foot. It's kind of weird, but i'm always kind of worried they're going to peck me.
We're almost through the first bag of chick feed and will probably be switching to layer feed next.
They're still squawky and crazy, running around into each other, flapping over each other, occasionally trying to fly out when we're giving them water or food.
Turns out they like green peppers and were figuring out how to eat spinach. And Grover is kind of losing his mind knowing the chickens are in the mudroom and he can't get to them.
