This week has been tiring and today completely exhausted me, so for now, a quick look at the progress in the living room and kitchen. When we stated, it looked like this. We started talking about knocking these walls out as we were buying the house. We don't mess around. A few months after moving in, about 4 days ago, it looked like this. The other night it looked like this. And tonight, it looks like this. So much more to come, but in the meantime, I leave you with Grover pups. He had a lot of fun at doggy daycare the other day.

I was all ready to post this and then realized it was Tuesday. But, figured, motivation is good every day so I'll post it anyway. I'm home in Virginia with my parents and it's always so nice to come home and recharge. And also to be reminded of how as a kid I wanted to go out into the world and make it better. Now, I'm in the world, and I have work to do. Source: Uploaded by user via Jenn on Pinterest To go along with this, I give you a Sugarland song that from the moment I first heard it have loved it. I play it loudly in the car when I need a boost or sometimes I sing it to myself when I'm running. It is quite possibly my favorite song ever. Either way, you have a voice, use it for good. Source: Uploaded by user via Vanessa on Pinterest The Fourth of July isn't about hot dogs and beer and fireworks for me. Typically, I don't do much on the Fourth, unless I'm working or home with my family. But, it's a day to think about the people who created this great country. True, we have problems, lots and lots of problems, but we have always aspired to greatness and that is something to be proud of.
To me the Declaration of Independence and Constitution are some of the finest documents ever created. Slight changes have been made over the more than two centuries that we've been a country, but for anyone to create single documents that would govern an enormous country for centuries at all is impressive. As a journalist, I take special interest in the first amendment and being a part of what is the fourth estate. We make an absolute mess of things sometimes and the rise of entertainment, gossip and tabloid journalism and the internet has certainly changed things for us. But as there will always be a need and a place for true statesmen like Washington, Jefferson, Adam, Madison, Lincoln, there will always be a place for true journalism. For providing truth, context and raising the national debate, there will always be a need. That's why I love the Fourth of July. I remember where the extraordinary men who created this country and who believed in a free press as a matter of national importance. It inspires me and asks us all to aspire to greatness. |
