But this week took the cake so far.
At the paper, I write about the military and city government. This week included a controversial apartment complex vote, a candidate forum for the local election, a government shutdown that has stalled a mission conversion at the National Guard unit, furloughed a significant chunk of town, postponed a nuclear inspection and all around madness. Then there's people ramming gates at the White House, car chases that end in shootouts near the Capitol, people on fire on the National Mall, and veterans storming barricades at the World War II Memorial. All in a city where I used to work and run and play and explore. I haven't even been gone a year and many of my friends are there and it seems the world has just plain lost its mind.
So I was happy for some fun, happy, inspiration yesterday from Alicia at Jaybird and Eileen at Leaner by the Lake and other new blogger friends. These lovely ladies created the #inspiremefriday series and it's just great. I got to playing with the Rhonna Designs app and used my first go for Friday.
And it certainly helps to have the lovely blogger ladies keeping my spirits up, including newer found blogger buddies like Julie at Bound and Megan at Pink O'clock.
Lacing up skates on Friday nights and teaching kids how to skate and being around people who have nothing to do with your work or the craziness that went on all week also helps. Especially when you take over a different group and the kids from last week come over asking "Are you still my teacher?" and you get high fives when they get the hang of a new skill or beg you to race them. Getting back into the hang of skating yourself after far too long off the ice is also a blast. I forgot how much I missed it until I got back on the ice.
And there's always these two for a dose of cuteness.
