After weeks of paperwork, meetings, an excruciating focus on finances we closed on this house on May 13, 2013.
In truth, it was just over a month from seeing the house for the first time to closing, but it felt like so much longer. Limbo is difficult for me, always has been. Part of me was terrified to buy a house, part of me was excited. But waiting to find out if this was going to work was probably the hardest part for me.
Now that we officially own this house, we can shift into planning our lives around that, paying the bills and turning this house into our home.
That will involve taking down awful wallpaper, removing glittery popcorn ceilings and updating all kinds of things.
But for now, let's take a tour. We'll start upstairs and then move down to the basement.

The living room, with very thick blue carpet, glittery popcorn ceiling, awful paneling and a great fireplace. This is what you see when you walk in the front door. Lucky for us they took the couch and table out.
The hallway from the living room to more of the house. The living room is to my left in this photo and the master is behind me. The first door on the right is the mudroom with a linen closet across from it. Then there's a bathroom on the right, kitchen on the left. Straight ahead is a bedroom, that might become an office, with some of the worst carpet, wallpaper and light fixtures. It's intense.
The mudroom. This is the same carpet as what I call the "lace room." I hate it. For some reason it reminds me of our house in Texas, when I was in elementary school. But, that door goes to a fantastic deck with quite possibly the most amazing view in town. This room has great potential and I'm thinking will be super handy for snow, rain, mud and the dogs and preventing us all from destroying the rest of the house.
Forgot to mention this random sink in the hallway. Not sure what we'll do with this, but it's on the way to the garage. Might be useful? Sort of matches the tile in the bathroom...yeah, we'll get to that.
The "lace room." I mean, really, there are no words for this. Those curtains have lace too.
Oye. The wallpaper on the left. Curtains on the right. Just oye.
The master. Not so bad, but those curtains have to go.
The dining room. Oh. My. Gosh. The paneling. I think it's going to have to go. As will a wall, quite possibly. We're thinking about someday opening it up from the kitchen through to the living room. This is in between the two.
The kitchen, plus the home inspector's assistant. This room has great potential. I'm pretty excited about it. And I love the lighting over the cabinets and the big window.
Alright, that's it for now. The upstairs bathroom really deserves its own post, so we'll go there next before heading to the basement.
